Optimize Query Performance (Specifics for SAP BW)

To increase performance in your SAP Analytics Cloud story when using SAP BW queries with two structures, reduce the amount of metadata that is being loaded.

When you are working with a large number of structure members and you notice decreased performance, you can use the option Optimize Performance for Two-Structure Queries.

The option is in the Data and Performance section of the (Model Preferences) dialog.

Note

When switching on this performance optimization option, you need to be aware of the following impacts:

  • User-defined formatting that is set up in the model is not applied. Instead, scale or decimal place settings from the SAP BW backend are adopted.

  • Variance charts show reversed values in measures with sign reversal.

  • Sign reversal for restricted measures is not supported.

  • Error bars cannot build a percentage-specific formula for SAB BW percentage measures.

  • The styling panel does not show correct values for scale and decimal places.

  • In the geo tooltips, the scaling factor is not displayed according to the settings.

  • Date and time measures cannot be used for charts or geo maps even though they are displayed in the drop-down menu of the Builder panel.

Another way to optimize performance is to use the option Reduce BW Query Metadata, which will reduce the number of attributes in the model.

This option is also in the Data and Performance section of the (Model Preferences) dialog.
