Configure Email Server

As an administrator, you can configure a default email server or a server of your choice for all your email deliveries.

Configure Default Email Server with Custom Header Sender Address

You can configure default email server with a custom header sender address for all email deliveries.

Context

Configuring a default email server with a custom header sender address of your choice helps your recipients identify the source of the email and relate to it better.

Procedure

  1. From the side navigation, choose Start of the navigation path System Next navigation step  Administration Next navigation step NotificationsEnd of the navigation path.
  2. Select (Edit) in the upper right-hand corner of the Notifications tab to enable editing of all settings on the page.
  3. Under Email Server Configuration, select Default.
    Note

    By default, the Default option is enabled under Email Server Configuration.

  4. Enter a valid email ID in the Header Sender Address field.
  5. Select (Save) in the upper right-hand corner of the Notifications tab to save changes.

Results

The default "noreply-sac+notification@sap.com" header sender address is replaced with this new email ID for all notifications and emails sent through SAP Analytics Cloud.

Configure Custom SMTP Server

You can configure an SMTP server of your choice, for all email deliveries.

Context

Configuring an email server of your choice ensures greater security and flexibility while delivering email for your business.

Procedure

  1. From the side navigation, choose Start of the navigation path System Next navigation step  Administration Next navigation step NotificationsEnd of the navigation path.
  2. Select (Edit).
  3. Under Email Server Configuration, select Custom.
    Note

    By default, the Default option is enabled under Email Server Configuration.

    Note
    Make sure that the SMTP server supports StartTLS, to allow secure transfer of emails.
  4. Choose the Authentication Type from the drop down.
    • If you select Basic as the Authentication Type, you need to fill the following fields.

      • Host: Enter the address of the host that is reachable over the Internet.

      • Port: Enter the port number of the SMTP account.

      • User Name: Enter a user name for the SMTP account.

      • Password: Enter the password for the SMTP account.

      • Envelope Sender Address: Email address used by the email server to deliver emails

      • Header Sender Address: Email address used by the email client to display sender's address in the From field.

    • If you select the advanced authentication, OAuth, as the Authentication Type, you need to fill the following fields and click Get Token.
      Note

      Before you begin using OAuth as the Authentication Type, make sure you've created an OAuth app with the necessary scope and permission set to send email via the service provider for the mail services.

      • Host: Enter the address of the host that is reachable over the Internet.

      • Port: Enter the port number of the SMTP account.

      • User Name: Enter a user name for the SMTP account.

      • Envelope Sender Address: Email address used by the email server to deliver emails.

        Note

        If you're using Microsoft365, User name and Envelope Sender Address must be same.

      • Header Sender Address: Email address used by the email client to display sender's address in the From field.

        Note

        If you're using Microsoft365, leave Header Sender Address empty.

      • Authorization URL: Enter the OAuth Authorization URL to generate the authorization code.

      • Token URL: Enter the OAuth Token URL to generate the access token and refresh token.

      • Client ID: Enter the Client ID to generate the access token and refresh token.

      • Client Secret: Enter the Client Secret code to generate the access token and refresh token.

      • Scope: This defines the permissions the OAuth Access Token has and the operations it can perform.

        This scope must contain the permission to send emails. Verify this with your email service provider.

      • Redirect URL: The Redirect URL is the URI where authorization code will be returned to. Make sure you add this URL in the OAuth app you created.

        This field is auto generated for the tenant.

      Note

      When you fill in all the required fields and click Get Token, the authorization code generation is initiated in a pop up window. Your cloud service provider prompts you to login. Make sure you use the same account to login that you've entered in the User Name field.

      If all the details are correct, a refresh token is generated using the authorization code and is populated in the Refresh Token field.

      Note

      When the generation of refresh tokens encounters an SSL certificate issue, the CA (Certificate Authorities) certificate must be manualy added. For more information, refer to SAP Note 3347741 Information published on SAP site

  5. Click Check Configuration or select (Save), to successfully validate the configuration details.
    Note
    • The form does not save the changes if the information in the required fields is incorrect or left blank. Instead, you will be prompted to add the correct or missing information and click the Save icon again.

    • On clicking Check Configuration, an email is triggered to the user who is logged in.

    Note

    If the configuration is not validated successfully, provide the correct information and check the configuration once again, or contact your administrator.
