Translate Content

To initiate the translation of a story, analytic application, model, public dimension, or SAP Analytics Hub content, activate the translation feature and enable a story for translation, after which you can export the XLIFF files.

Activating Translation

If you're an Administrator you can turn on or turn off the toggle to activate content translation. (To navigate to turn on the toggle, go to Main Menu, Start of the navigation pathSystem Next navigation step Administration Next navigation step System ConfigurationEnd of the navigation path, turn on or turn off the Allow translation of user content toggle.

Note
The Data access language selected by you at the time of sending the content for translation becomes the source language.
Caution
If you disable Enable translation for content that has been enabled for translation, all of its translations will be permanently deleted.

Enabling a Story for Translation

You can enable a story for translation in a series of simple steps.

Context

Procedure

  1. To access a story that you want to enable translation for, do one of the following:
    • From the Home Screen, under Recent Stories, select the story.
    • From the () Main Menu, select Files and then select the story.
  2. Next to Controls, click Edit.
  3. From the (Edit Story) dropdown list, select Story Details.
  4. Turn on the Enable translation toggle for each story to make it visible in the Translation dashboard.
  5. Click Save.

    Any changes made to the story will be sent for translation every time the story is saved.

Enabling a Model for Translation

You can have model metadata translated.

Context

When you enable a model for translation, the following model metadata is translated, both for live data models and import data models:

  • Model description
  • Dimension descriptions (for live connections, the dimension descriptions are taken from the live data source)
  • Dimension property descriptions
  • Dimension hierarchy descriptions
  • Variable descriptions

Procedure

  1. From the () Main Menu, select Files.
  2. Open the model you want to have translated.
  3. Select Model Preferences Start of the navigation path Next navigation step  LanguageEnd of the navigation path.
  4. Click Request Model Translation.
  5. Click OK.
    Any changes made to the model will be sent for translation every time the model is saved.

Enabling an Analytic Application for Translation

You can translate user-defined strings in an analytic application.

Context

You can translate the following content in analytics designer.

  • Text in a button, dropdown, checkbox group or radio button group

  • Tooltip in a button or dropdown

  • Label Text in a checkbox group or radio button group

  • Display Hint of an input field

  • Dialog Title and Button Text of a popup

  • Description of an analytic application

Note

As the values of widgets such as values in a dropdown box can be used as reference keys in scripts, they are not available for translation.

Procedure

  1. From the side navigation select (Files), then open the analytic application you want to translate.
  2. Click the (Edit Analytic Application) button and choose Analytic Application Details.
  3. Turn on Enable translation.
  4. Click Save.

    After enabling translation for an analytic application, the application will be listed in the translation dashboard.

    Note

    If you delete an analytic application, the relevant translations will still exist in the translation dashboard until the analytic application is permanently deleted from Deleted Files.

Translating Your Content

Once the administrator has activated translation and you have enabled translation for the content you wish to translate you can either do a batch translation or in-line translation.

Context

  • Translate in batch with the help of XLIFF files: you can start translating content by exporting strings as an XLIFF file and then importing the translated XLIFF file.

  • Ad-hoc inline translation in the translation dashboard: you can also directly translate strings in the translation dashboard.

After you complete the translation, you can further manage the translated content or delete a particular language translation.

Exporting XLIFF Files

Context

The Export icon in the Translation dashboard is present in the tool bar. You can export the strings to be translated to the downloadable XLIFF file, which can then be used to translate the content.

Procedure

  1. From the Main menu, open the Translation dashboard.
  2. In the Translation dashboard, select a single story, analytic application, model, or public dimension, or multiple objects, that you want to translate.
  3. Click the Export icon to download the XLIFF files.
    If one object is selected to be exported, the corresponding XLIFF file can be downloaded as a .zip file.
  4. You can choose to select All Strings or Outstanding Strings while exporting the XLIFF file(s). The Outstanding Strings option is enabled only for partially translated objects.

    The XLIFF file is downloaded to the default location in your system.

    Note
    The downloaded XLIFF file contains the source locale and the list of text that needs translation. You can use this XLIFF file in any external translation tool to generate the translated content as a separate XLIFF file per locale.

Importing XLIFF Files

The translated strings are imported in the XLIFF file format. To import the translated XLIFF files for your story, analytic application, model, public dimension, or SAP Analytics Hub follow these steps.

Procedure

  1. In the Translation dashboard accessible from the Main menu, select the story, analytic application, model, or public dimension that you want to import the XLIFF file for.
  2. Click the Import XLIFF Files icon.
    The Import Translations dialog appears.
  3. Click Upload Files to upload the translated XLIFF files back into the SAP Analytics Cloud story, analytic application, model, public dimension, or your SAP Analytics Hub.
  4. Click Import to upload the XLIFF files.
    Note
    You can import multiple XLIFF files per story, analytic application, model, or public dimension object. Each XLIFF file contains the translated content in one language, which is automatically fetched from the language code embedded in the name of the uploaded XLIFF files. These XLIFF files can be uploaded together since they belong to one object. The Import option is disabled if more than one object is selected.

Setting the Source Language

You can choose the source language you want the analytics content to appear as.

Context

Procedure

  1. Click the Profile Settings next to Main Menu.
  2. Under User Preferences, set the Data Access Language.

    As the selected story is set for translation, the Data Access Language of the story becomes the Source Language of the story.

    If the Data Access Language is changed to French, you can view the changes on the screen.
    Note

    The Edit option to edit a story is allowed only when it has the same Data Access Language and the Source Language.

Managing Translations

To view the translation status for a story, model, public dimension, or Hub content, upload the translated XLIFF files back into the object. You can then view the translation status available in different languages.

When you click the status of a story, model, public dimension, or Hub content, a dialog appears with the list of translated languages and corresponding status in which the object was translated. You can also delete the translations for languages that you no longer need.

You can view the translated text in the Translation dashboard.

Note

If the content in your story has changed, the updated strings will still be available in the translation panel as expired content.

Note

You can upload the XLIFF files even if there is a mismatch in the HTML tags between the source and target language strings.
