Monitor Data Actions
After a data action is triggered, either in an SAP Analytics Cloud story or analytic application, via data action tracing, from a calendar task, or as part of a multi action, you can monitor and manage it on the Data Action Monitor page.
To access the Data Action Monitor page, you can either select the link in the message that appears when you start to run a data action in background, or select (Data Actions) from the side navigation and choose the Data Action Monitor tab.
The data action monitor provides an overview of your data action jobs based on your role. If you have Read or Manage permission for Data Action Monitor Administration, you can view all data action jobs, including the name, trigger source, and model data name for all data actions.
If you do not have Read or Manage permission for Data Action Monitor Administration, you can view data action jobs that you triggered, data actions whose target versions you own, and data actions triggered from data action tasks shared with you in the calendar.
In the data action monitor, the Triggered From column shows where the data action was originally triggered. In some cases, like when a multi action with a data action step is triggered from the calendar, there can be multiple Triggered From sources. When a source in the Triggered From column shows as Unavailable, it means that you do not have permission to view the source.
By default, the data action monitor tracks jobs up to 30 days old.
Status | Description |
---|---|
(Successful) | Data action successfully completed. |
Running | Data action is running. |
(Failed) | Data action failed. When a data action fails, the private version reverts to what it
was before the data action started. All newly created edit versions
are removed. If partial publish is available and you choose that option, the private version does not revert and it will not be possible to publish it manually. |
(Pending) | Data action is pending and waiting to execute. Pending time includes the time required to validate the data action.
|
(Canceled) | Data action was canceled. |
Search, Sort, or Filter Data Actions
You can search for data actions in the list view, sort the columns, or filter the list view by data action job status, triggering date, data action name, triggered from, triggered by, model, and version.
To view updated information about the data action jobs, choose the (Refresh) icon. To cancel all filters, choose the (Reset filter) icon.
Cancel a Data Action
You can cancel pending and running data actions in the Data Action Monitor.
If you also have Manage permission for Data Action Monitor Administration and Execute permission for data actions, you can cancel data actions that other users have triggered.
If you do not have those permissions, you can cancel only data actions that you have triggered.
To cancel pending or running data actions, select one or more data actions from the list and then select (Cancel). You can also choose Select All to select all data actions from the list, except for data actions filtered by filter or search inputs.
When a pending data action is canceled, the model data is not changed and the next data action can be processed directly after the cancellation
When a running data action is canceled, the model data is not changed by the data action. The canceled data action must be cleaned up and it will take a few minutes before the next data action can be processed.
View More Data Action Execution Details
To view details about the time it took to complete a data action, select Show/Hide columns and select the Pending Time and Execution Time columns.
-
Pending Time: Pending time is the amount of time the data action remained in the queue before starting.
-
Preparing to Execute: Preparing to execute is the time needed to validate the data action, including the parameters and models used in the data action, and prepare the edit version.
-
Execution Time: Execution time is the amount of time it took to run the data action.
-
Total Duration: Total duration is the overall time to took to complete the data action, including the Pending Time and Execution Time.
You can also check details about execution status and detailed step information by selecting a data action process.
In the data action details panel, the header provides additional information about execution, such as pending time and execution time.
-
Status tab: The status tab shows the status of the data action and when it was completed.
-
Steps tab: The steps tab allows you to view a specific data action step by selecting the step name link. It also shows the number of database records affected by each step and the duration of each step. If the step is no longer available, the step name will display as text and you can hover over it to read the tooltip for more information.
-
Parameters tab: The parameters tab shows the parameter values you chose when running the data action, instead of the default values.
Because the expendable sections for the Embedded Data Actions can be viewed in the tree table, you don't have to open them in separate columns.
If a step fails, an info icon is displayed next to the name. You can hover over the info icon to learn more details.
Quick Link to the Place You Trigger a Data Action
To quickly access the place where you trigger a data action, click the corresponding data action name, or from the Triggered from column, select the hyperlink of corresponding story, analytic application or calendar.
In the case when there’s no links available, for example, when a story was deleted or a data action task in calendar was executed without data action assignment, Unavailable is displayed.
