Filter Across Models

In SAP Analytics Cloud, after linking dimensions across models you can create filters on dimensions in one model that will affect dimensions from both models.

Note
Filtering across models on hierarchies can be performance intensive. There are a few things to consider:
  • If the hierarchies aren't identical, then you might need to filter on descendants to get the right filter result, at the cost of slower performance.

  • If the hierarchy is a level-based hierarchy for an import data model, we suggest that you link on ID and the individual hierarchy properties, rather than the hierarchy itself.

Direct and Indirect Filters

Dimensions can be linked across models by direct filters or indirect filters.

  • Direct filters:
    • If the dimensions that you wish to filter can be linked, create a link that works with a direct filter.

In addition, link as many dimensions as possible to increase the speed of propagation and the application of filter values across models.

For example, when you create filters for a dimension “Store”, then “Store” has to be a part of the linked dimensions.

  • Indirect filters:
    • If the dimensions you wish to filter cannot be linked, link as few dimensions as possible; this will mitigate the slower performance caused by using indirect filters.

The fewer linked dimensions you use, the faster SAP Analytics Cloud will find the correct combination of filter values.

For example, when you create filters for a dimension “Product” – which is only present in one model and can't be linked to the other model – optimize performance by creating as few linked dimensions as possible.
