Accessibility - Use Keyboard to Access Story Pages

When viewing a story, use the keyboard instead of the mouse to find a specific widget or context menu on a story page.

You can use specific keys on your keyboard to move between different parts of your SAP Analytics Cloud story pages. When the focus is on a widget such as a chart, you can also use the keys to open the context menu and change the information that is displayed in the chart.

You can also use the keys to do the following:

  • Navigate through story and page filters (input controls), and through variables.

  • Add filters or variables to your story.

Tip

To use the function keys on some keyboards, you need to press the Fn key first.

For example, you would need to use the following key combination: Fn + F6

Navigate the Story Page

  • F6: Skip large groups of content.

    For example, pressing F6 three or four times changes the focus to the first widget in the main story page.

  • Tab: Move between items within a group. Can also be used to change the focus from a chart to its context menu ( More Actions).

  • Arrow keys: Navigate between items in a list. For example, you can use the arrows to navigate between the items in the context menu.

Example: Navigate an Input Control

You can navigate input controls (also referred to as page filters) using a combination of keys, including F6, Tab, arrow keys, and Enter.

The following workflow describes the navigation process to change selected members in an input control.

  1. Select and change to the desired page.

    Tab Bar Hidden Tab Bar Displayed

    Use this process when the pages are listed in the menu toolbar.

    1. Press F6 until the focus is on the menu toolbar.

    2. Use Tab to move to the page names list.

      Use the arrow keys to find the page.

    3. Press Enter.

      You've switched to the page with an input control.

    Use this process when the Tab Bar is displayed.

    1. Press F6 until the focus is on the menu toolbar.

    2. Use Tab to move to the page numbers list. (The focus should be on the right arrow.)

    3. Press Enter until the desired page is selected.

      You've switched to the page with an input control.

  2. Navigate to the input control.

    1. Press F6 until the focus is within the story page.

    2. Use the arrow keys to move the focus to the input control.

    3. Press Enter.

      The input control expands.

  3. Make changes to the member list.

    1. Use Tab to change the focus to the member list.

    2. Use the arrow keys to find the members that you want to include or exclude.

    3. Press Enter to change the selected status.

  4. Apply your changes.

    1. Use Tab to move the focus to Apply Selections.

    2. Press Enter.

The changes are applied to the widgets on the current page.

Navigate the Context Menu ( More Actions)

Tab to the context menu () and then press Enter to open it.

Use the arrow keys to move up and down in the list. For nested options (fly-out menus), use the right and left arrows to navigate those menus.

Restrictions

In the following situations, you may not be able to navigate as expected with the keyboard.

Scenario Issue

Account dropdown list in Advanced Sorting dialog.

You need to press Enter instead of Alt + Down arrow .

Using F6 for group skipping from a widget in the story to the hamburger menu (Home sidebar).

Focus moves to a hidden element.

Using keyboard to navigate between widgets when the mouse focus in on a Geo map widget.

The Geo map contents are scrolled.

Geo map and R visualization: navigating the context (more actions) menu.

Opening sub-menus in the context (more actions) menu is not currently supported.

Apply custom styling to a widget or story.

Dotted rectangle focus isn't visible around the widgets.

Button background is a darker shade.

Dotted rectangle focus isn't clearly visible on the button.
