Create a Model from a Data Source

You can create a model from a specific data source.

Context

Before being able to use a data source, it has to have a connection ready so that data can be imported. For more information on the available import data sources and how to set up a connection, see Data Connections.

Procedure

  1. From the Modeler start page, select From a Data Source.
  2. Select a data source.
  3. Select an exisiting connection, or create a new one.
For more information on how to create a new connection for a given import data source, see Data Connections.
  4. Select a whether you want to create a new query, or reuse a query from an existing model.
    • If you're creating a query, give it a name, a description, select data, and build a query.
    • If you're reusing an existing query, select whether you want to reuse it as is, or modify it using the Modify existing query option.
  5. If needed, build a query by dragging data from the Available Data list to the Selected Data and Filters areas.
Moving data to the Selected Data and Filters areas allows you to create new measures and dimensions to be imported to your model, and apply filters to them. For more information regarding query building and filters, see Building a Query.
After you've built the query, the application imports the data and redirects you to the data integration view, where you can where you can complete the mapping of your new data to the model's dimensions.
