Create Linked Analyses in Analytic Applications
You can create linked analysis on an input control, chart, table or geo map, so that when you filter or drill through hierarchical data on
it, other widgets included in the analysis can be simultaneously updated in your analytic applications.
Prerequisites
All the widgets linked to each other must come from the same data source. This also includes blended data source.
Procedure
-
Select a widget in your application.
Your selection will be the source widget in linked analysis, whose changes will affect other widgets.
-
From the widget's (More Actions) menu,
select Settings.
-
Select an interaction option to configure its target widgets to be affected:
Option |
Description |
Only This Widget |
(Default) Filtering or drilling through hierarchical data on this widget will only update the widget itself. It won't have target
widgets.
|
All Widgets from This Data Source |
Filtering or drilling through hierarchical data on this widget will update all the widgets in the application.
- Filter on Data Point Selection: Filter target widgets by selected data points on this widget.
Note
At runtime, when a chart’s pause mode is switched off or it’s called by refreshData() API, its data points can’t be
selected to filter the target widgets.
- Use this Table to Control Measures: Use this table to control which measures appear in the charts linked to it.
After applying this, remember to use the generated measures from the table as one of the measures of the target
widgets. Selecting its column header will change the charts’ displayed measure.
|
Only Selected Widgets |
Filtering or drilling through hierarchical data on this widget will update only specific widgets. You can select the target widgets to be
included in linked analysis.
Besides Filter on Data Point Selection and Use this Table to Control
Measures, the following option is available:
Automatically Connect Newly Created Widgets: Link to any new widgets based on the same data
source.
|
Note
Chart types including histogram, waterfall and time series chart aren’t supported for linked analysis settings. They
can only be configured as target widgets.
-
Select Apply.
Results
You’ve created linked analysis, which can make any change to the widget affect other ones, depending on the interaction option you’ve selected.
For geo maps, any polygon filter created or shape selection can affect other widgets to re-render.
You can further access linked widgets diagram, which can visualize the relationships you’ve set and help you adjust the existing settings.
Note
When you copy an input control with linked widgets to another analytic application or from canvas to a popup, linked analysis won’t
be copied.
Note
At design time, linked analysis won't be applied to any widgets in popups.
