Creating a Geo-Enriched Dimension Property Structure for a Model With Coordinate Data

You can enrich a private or public dimension of type Generic or Organization with geo data in the modeler. To enrich a dimension with numeric coordinates you must create a dimension property for geo longitude and geo latitude with the according types.

Prerequisites

You have defined a model that you would like to enrich with geographical data.

Context

These steps describe how to prepare the property structure of an existing or new model for the Geo enrichment before the data assignment.

Note
  • You can enrich a dimension only once with a coordinate pair consisting of longitude and latitude.

  • When specifying coordinates, SAP Analytics Cloud only supports the decimal degrees format (with the degree symbol omitted). For example: A latitude of 38.8897 and a longitude of -77.0089. The supported range for latitude is from -85.05113 to 85.05113 and for longitude from -180 to 180.

Procedure

  1. Either open an existing dimension of type genric or organization in your model or create a new dimension of these types.
  2. In the Dimension Details panel, select Create Property.
  3. In the Create Property dialog enter an ID, an optional description and open the dropdown for property Type.
  4. Select Latitude for Geo Coordinates and choose Create.
  5. Repeat steps 3 to 4 for a Longitude property.
  6. Save the model. Upon saving the model, the structure of the dimension that has one pair of coordinates is enriched. The geo enriched dimensions are displayed with the symbol in the modeler. You can now assign the data to the dimension you have changed or created.
  7. Assign geographical data via the Data Management option Import Data from Fiile. For more details, see Import Data Source Reference.

Results

You can now visualize the geo-enriched dimensions using geo maps in stories.
